The Paradise in This World
In a restless, noisy world, learn how simple gatherings of remembrance become sacred gardens of peace.
Did you know that there are gardens of Paradise in this very world?
This may sound surprising at first—how could anything in this temporary world resemble Paradise? But the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave us a beautiful insight into this very idea. Anas ibn Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"When you pass by the gardens of Paradise, stop and spend some time there."
The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, we live in this world—how can there be gardens of Paradise here? Where are they?"
The Prophet ï·º replied: "The circles of remembrance (zikr) are the gardens of Paradise in this world."
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3510)
This hadith opens a door to a deep and peaceful understanding of how spiritual experiences in this life can taste like Jannah. The gatherings in which people remember Allah, reflect on His words, praise Him, and make du'a—these are not ordinary gatherings. They are moments where hearts are softened, sins are forgiven, and tranquility descends. The Prophet ﷺ once said:
"No people gather to remember Allah except that the angels surround them, mercy covers them, peace descends upon them, and Allah mentions them to those with Him." (Muslim)
Think about it—these circles are not just about saying words with the tongue. They are spaces where souls are healed. When you sit with people who are remembering their Creator, who are striving to be better, who speak kindly and sincerely, you feel a unique kind of peace. It's a peace that money can’t buy and distractions can’t imitate.
Being in such circles also reminds us of the power of companionship. You're surrounded by people who are working on themselves, who care about the afterlife, and who carry love and light in their hearts. They lift you up and help you stay focused on what truly matters.
Why are these gatherings like Paradise?
Because in Paradise:
There is peace. And these gatherings bring a deep calmness to the heart.
There is remembrance of Allah. And these circles are built on that.
There is love between believers. And here, too, you feel that sincere brotherhood and sisterhood.
When we attend these gatherings—even virtually or in pairs—our souls are refreshed. They become a retreat for the heart in a world that often feels overwhelming. These are not just moments of reward, but experiences of serenity.
Reflection Questions:
When was the last time you sat in a gathering purely for the remembrance of Allah?
How do you feel afterward—lighter, calmer, more connected?
Can you create or join a small circle of zikr or Qur’an reflection in your life?
Take a moment to think: Are you walking past the gardens of Paradise without stepping in?
